Description
Burdock NSP (SKU 140): Detox Adaptogen with Arctiin and Inulin
Burdock root (Arctium lappa) is a traditional medicinal plant used for centuries across Europe and Asia. Burdock NSP (SKU 140) contains standardized root extract rich in arctiin, inulin, chlorogenic acid, and polyphenols.
Mechanism of Action
Arctiin and Arctigenin: Anti-inflammatory Cascade
Arctiin is a lignan metabolized by gut microbiota into arctigenin. Arctigenin inhibits the NF-κB signaling pathway, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β). Lin et al. (2011) documented significant reduction in inflammatory markers (PMID: 21430411).
Inulin: Prebiotic and Detox Agent
Inulin is a soluble dietary fiber fermented by bifidobacteria, stimulating beneficial gut flora growth and toxin elimination.
Hepatoprotection
Chlorogenic acid and polyphenols reduce ALT/AST levels and activate phases I and II of liver detoxification. Lou et al. (2012) documented hepatoprotective effects (PMID: 23118087).

Consultant Comment
Burdock root is one of the richest plant sources of inulin (up to 45% dry weight), a prebiotic fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria. In my practice I use NSP Burdock Root as a gentle support for liver detoxification and lymphatic drainage. The lignans arctiin and arctigenin have documented hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity (Awad et al., J Ethnopharmacol, 2012). I particularly recommend it alongside Lymphatic Drainage and Black Walnut for seasonal cleanse protocols. A typical course is 4–6 weeks.
