Description

Ginkgo Biloba NSP — Natural Brain and Circulation Support

Ginkgo biloba — a 270-million-year-old living fossil — is one of the most extensively clinically studied plants. Standardized extract EGb 761 (≥24% flavonoid glycosides, ≥6% terpene lactones) is an officially approved pharmaceutical in Germany for cognitive disorders and peripheral circulation.

Active Components

Flavonoid glycosides (24%): quercetin, kaempferol, isorhamnetin — powerful antioxidants for neurons and vascular endothelium.

Terpene lactones (6%): ginkgolides A, B, C, J and bilobalide — PAF inhibitors, vasodilators, neuroprotectors.

Mechanisms of Action

  1. Cerebral circulation — ginkgolides increase cerebral blood flow by 15–25%
  2. Neuroprotection — blocks mitochondrial dysfunction and neuronal apoptosis from hypoxia/oxidative stress
  3. Antiplatelet action — ginkgolide B specifically inhibits PAF
  4. Cholinergic modulation — may improve synaptic transmission and memory

Clinical Evidence

Meta-analysis (Weinmann S. et al., Journal of Psychiatric Research, 2010): EGb 761 at 240 mg/day significantly improved cognitive function in mild cognitive impairment and dementia (PMID: 20708226).

How to Use

Standard dose: 1–2 capsules 2–3 times daily with meals. Minimum course: 4–6 weeks. Recommended: 3–6 months for cognitive support.

Important: Discontinue 2 weeks before surgery. Use with caution if taking warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel.

NSP Synergy

Goal Combination
Maximum cognition Ginkgo + Gotu Kola
Memory & learning Lecithin + Omega-3
Brain antioxidant CoQ10 + Zambroza

💬 Consultant’s Comment

NSP Ginkgo Biloba is one of the most thoroughly studied plant-based neuroprotectors. Over 400 clinical trials confirm its effectiveness for improving cerebral blood flow and cognitive function. I recommend it for people over 40 as a preventive measure against age-related cognitive changes, and for vascular problems such as tinnitus, dizziness, and poor circulation to the extremities.

What is NSP Ginkgo Biloba and what does it do?

NSP Ginkgo Biloba is a standardised extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves containing 24% ginkgo flavonoglycosides and 6% terpene lactones. These active compounds improve cerebral blood flow, protect neurons from oxidative stress, and support microcirculation throughout the body.

When is NSP Ginkgo Biloba especially recommended?

It is indicated for reduced memory and concentration, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), dizziness of vascular origin, cold hands and feet due to impaired peripheral circulation, and for general prevention of age-related brain changes from age 45 onwards.

What is the recommended dose of NSP Ginkgo Biloba?

Take 1–2 capsules twice daily with food. The therapeutic effect requires consistent use for at least 6–8 weeks. Do not stop the course early — the effect accumulates gradually with regular use.

How does NSP Ginkgo Biloba differ from cheaper alternatives?

NSP uses a standardised extract with confirmed active substance content (24% flavonoglycosides, 6% terpene lactones). Cheaper alternatives often contain non-standardised leaf powder with unpredictable and variable active compound content.

Are there contraindications for NSP Ginkgo Biloba?

Contraindicated with anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin), before surgery (discontinue 2 weeks prior), during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and in epilepsy. May increase bleeding tendency when taken with blood thinners.

How does NSP Ginkgo Biloba combine with other products?

Synergistic combinations: NSP Lecithin (complete brain nourishment), NSP Omega-3 (DHA + ginkgo = powerful cognitive support), NSP Grapine (antioxidant synergy for vessels), NSP Vitamin E.

How long should a course of NSP Ginkgo Biloba last?

A minimum effective course is 2–3 months of continuous use. For age-related cognitive changes, long-term use of 6–12 months with assessment every 2–3 months is recommended. Safe for extended use.
