Description

Bon-C NSP (SKU 1248): Buffered Vitamin C with Citrus Bioflavonoids

Bon-C NSP (SKU 1248) is a unique buffered vitamin C formula where ascorbic acid is neutralized with calcium and magnesium (ascorbates) for gentle gastrointestinal action. The formula is enriched with citrus bioflavonoids (hesperidin, rutin, naringin) that synergistically potentiate antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Mechanism of Action

Buffered Ascorbate: Neutral pH, High Bioavailability

Regular ascorbic acid (pH 2.5–3) can irritate gastric mucosa at higher doses. Buffered forms (calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate, pH 6–7) are significantly better tolerated, especially with sensitive GI tract.

Bioflavonoid Synergy

Citrus bioflavonoids slow ascorbate oxidation in tissues, extending its biological activity period. Rutin and hesperidin strengthen capillary walls and inhibit hyaluronidase — protecting connective tissue matrix.

Collagen Synthesis

Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for prolyl-4-hydroxylase and lysyl-hydroxylase — enzymes that hydroxylate proline and lysine in procollagen, creating stable cross-links.

Immunomodulation

Ascorbate accumulates in neutrophils at concentrations 50–100x higher than plasma, enhancing phagocytic activity (PMID: 29099763).

  • Ferrón-Celma et al. (2009) — Ascorbate reduces oxidative stress (PMID: 19394026)

Composition (per capsule)

  • Calcium ascorbate — buffered vitamin C form
  • Magnesium ascorbate — additional buffer + magnesium
  • Citrus bioflavonoids (hesperidin, rutin, naringin)
  • Gluten-free, lactose-free; GMP NSP (USA)

Applications

🛡️ Immunity: Neutrophil phagocytic activity support, interferon synthesis.

🌸 Allergy: Antihistamine effect of vitamin C; bioflavonoids stabilize mast cells.

💆 Stress Protection: Adrenal glands store high ascorbate concentrations that deplete rapidly under stress.

🦷 Gums & Vessels: Collagen synthesis for gum health; capillary wall strengthening.

Nutrient Synergy

  • Zinc NSP — synergistic immunomodulator, collagen synthesis cofactor
  • Vitamin D3 NSP — joint immune response regulation
  • Quercetin (Hista Block NSP) — potentiates antihistamine and antioxidant effects

Consultant Comment

After 25+ years with NSP products, Bon-Si remains my standard recommendation for bone health support in adults. Calcium and magnesium in a 2:1 synergistic ratio combined with vitamin D3 form the minimum foundation for bone mineralisation. Vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7) directs calcium into bones rather than blood vessels — critically important after age 40. For post-menopausal women and men over 50, Bon-Si is the baseline protocol I combine with Omega-3 and vitamin C. Does not replace medical treatment for osteoporosis.

Usage

Adults use 1-2 capsules three times a day during meals.
Store in a dry, cool, protected from light place.

What are the ingredients in NSP Bon-Si?

Calcium (carbonate and citrate), magnesium, vitamin D3 and K2 (menaquinone-7), plus boron — a trace mineral that enhances calcium absorption.

What is the difference between calcium citrate and carbonate in Bon-Si?

Citrate absorbs well regardless of stomach acidity, while carbonate absorbs best with food. The combination supports optimal absorption throughout the day.

Why is vitamin K2 included?

Vitamin K2 activates osteocalcin — the protein that binds calcium into bone matrix. Without K2, calcium may deposit in blood vessels rather than bones.

How should Bon-Si be taken?

3 capsules daily with meals is recommended. Splitting doses across 2–3 meals improves calcium absorption compared to a single daily dose.

Does Bon-Si combine well with other NSP products?

It pairs well with Omega-3 (improves absorption of fat-soluble vitamins D and K), Vitamin C (supports collagen synthesis), and the Joint Health Programme.

Who benefits most from Bon-Si?

Women over 40, those with low dairy intake, athletes with high joint loads, and individuals over 50 years of age.

Is Bon-Si safe for long-term use?

At the recommended dose it is safe for long-term use. Those with chronic kidney disease or hypercalcaemia should consult a doctor before use.
